What is Counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy where you discuss your concerns and feelings with a counsellor who will listen and support you, but without judging or criticising.

Controlled trials suggest that the effectiveness of counselling is similar to the use of antidepressants (ref). Sceptics sometimes doubt the effectiveness because counselling appears to be nothing more than two people “chattings”. This view is deceptive. A counsellor’s training makes the sessions structured, focussed and constructive, and its benefits are confirmed by people who have had counselling (see videos below).
